Tips for introduction

Tips for introducing a weighted product

It might feel a bit uncomfortable at first as your body needs to get used to having weight placed on it.

Kids can also be tricky when a new item is introduced, especially if they haven’t used a weighted product before. Their bodies also need to get accustomed to the sensory input. We recommend with all our products that you ease your child into using the weighted product – communicate that it’s a special tool to help ease anxiety, stress of feelings of being overwhelmed.

When your child goes to sleep, it’s a good idea to check in to make sure the blanket is still properly wrapped over them so they’re getting the full benefit of the weight! Once they’ve adjusted to the blanket, children don’t want to sleep without it, especially after experiencing the deep, calm sleep that the weighted product gives.

When using the shoulder wraps, lap pads and vests some children need to wear their weighted items throughout the day. There is no right or wrong amount of time to be using your weighted product. Leave it up to the child or yourself to direct and self-regulate when needed
